The 4th Edition “Sembene Across Africa” has gotten underway across Africa.
Ousmane Sembene, regarded as the father of African cinema was a Senegalese filmmaker who devoted 50 years of his life to telling stories to galvanize his brothers and sisters.
The program in his honor is a collaboration with hundreds of organizations, schools, universities and individuals, with a single objective to bring the timeless work of Sembene to Africans.
Sembene was a self-taught filmmaker who became a giant of world culture and whose novels and films remain among the most important on the continent.
Professor Sambia Gadjigo is one of the organizers of this event.
He tells WADR more about this year’s event as well as the life and legacy of Mr. Sembene.
