Senegal: WaterAid urges investment in water sanitation

On the occasion of Global Handwashing Day (today the 15th of October), WaterAid, through its regional office in Dakar is calling on the government to double its investment in safe water and sanitation to stop the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.

In Senegal 76% of the population, more than 12 million inhabitants, do not have a facility at home to wash their hands with soap and clean water, according to the organization.

Yet frequent handwashing with soap and water is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of infection. Without this first line of defense, health experts say, the risk of the virus spreading in communities is increased.
