Former Nigerian president and leader of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), Jonathan Goodluck, has expressed optimism in the capabilities of Ghana’s Electoral Commission ahead of the general elections.

He shared this with the media following a series of high-level meetings with key election stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service.

He reiterated the key role the electoral management body and the security services play in the success of any elections, stating, and I quote, “For elections to be successful, two institutions are critical. The electoral management body, which is sharing the recommendation of Ghana, then the security. Today, we met with the Inspector General, the police, and the EC team; of course, we’ve just finished the meeting. So, we had a robust discussion about this, with her, and we’ve seen the passion they have, the commitment they have to conduct successful elections, and what they have done so far, which is key,” end of quote.

The Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa, further assured the public that the EC is poised to conduct credible, transparent, and peaceful elections.
