A circuit court in Ghana’s capital, Accra has remanded into custody, 39 of the 42 persons arrested for participating in a demonstration to demand an end to illegal mining in the country.

Some human rights activists have not only criticized the police over their handling of the case but also described as harsh, the two-week remand by the court.
