The Malian Army has yet to provide additional information nearly 24 hours after Tuesday’s attack in the capital, Bamako.

JNIM terrorist network has claimed responsibility for the simultaneous attacks on the Gendemarie College and the Air Force base.

Sources within the army confirmed heavy material damage and casualties during the fighting that lasted hours but gave no count of people killed.

Businesses and administrative duties were temporarily suspended due to fear until the evening hours of yesterday when the Armed forces assured that the situation was under control.

It should be noted security forces have long fought against extremist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in the northern and western regions away from the capital.

Speaking to WADR, Bram Posthumous, a journalist familiar with the Sahel regions, explains probable security lapse resulting in the gunfight.
