Violence Against Civilians – a dangerous situation that occurs at the border areas, conflict zones, in remote areas, and also in locations near urban centres is our focus this week.
A new survey by the West Africa Secretariat says violence in North and West Africa is on the rise.
In the last decade, clashes between government forces and local militias, rebel groups and extremist organizations have resulted in over 100, 000 deaths.
It says conflicts have become more violent, increasingly targeting civilians, particularly in rural and border areas, where state power and infrastructures have long been deficient.
These violent acts, according to experts constitute violations against civilians.
