Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel Region, has urged Ghanaians to be cautious of the divisive religious and ethnic sentiments surfacing in anticipation of the 2024 General Elections.

His call comes at a time when elements within the two major political parties in the country, the National Democratic Congress and National Patriotic Party are having a go at each other over which religion their flagbearers belong to.

Delivering a speech during STAR Ghana Foundation’s anniversary lecture on “Empowering Citizens and Enriching Nation Building” the former envoy emphasized that the criteria for selecting leaders should go beyond religious and ethnic factors.
