The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali has reported a heavy attack on its convoy in the northern region as it evacuated a camp in Tessalit.
There’s no immediate confirmation of casualty but the UN says it strongly condemns the attack.
The incident occurred on Monday, just a day after the organization stated the potential of a worsening security situation in the region.
Northern Mali has recently witnessed surging attacks by former rebels against military formations for territorial control.
Hundreds have been killed and twice as many injured.
But the UN fears the impact of these attacks on its withdrawal as December 31 draws nearer.
