The triumphant South African rugby union team has touched down in their home country after securing a historic fourth World Cup victory. A massive and exuberant crowd gathered to welcome the players at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
South Africa now boasts the most impressive record in World Cup history, having claimed four titles in just eight appearances. Captain Siya Kolisi proudly displayed the Webb Ellis Cup, earned through a heart-pounding showdown against New Zealand last Saturday.
Addressing a press conference in Johannesburg, Kolisi expressed, “We made a decision that we had already won the World Cup in 2019 – it’s not about us as players anymore. We wanted to make sure that this one is for the people of South Africa. This one is for every single person in South Africa, regardless of their background or circumstances.”
