The National Assembly Members of the Gambia called for the annulment of the law prohibiting Female Genital Mutilation FGM in the country.
The lawmakers during a debate on Monday, held the position that the law opposes the cultural and religious beliefs of the Gambian people.
The law enacted by former President Yahya Jammeh in 2015, criminalizes the practice and prescribes a range of punishments.
