As usual, this edition of the program has two themes for you. The first is examining the various diseases young people and young adults often encounter, while the second half of the programme will see us talk about the effects of noise pollution on your health.
But first, did you know that Survival chances for adolescents and young adults vary greatly across the world? In 2020, the probability of dying among those aged 10–24 years was highest in sub-Saharan Africa, according to a WHO report.
Now if you are in your 20s, you probably think you don’t have to worry about health problems such as strokes, cancer or any other older people’s diseases yet. But according to new research, they could affect you sooner than you think.
Sadly, statistics from the WHO, on young people’s disease and deaths are disturbing. But let me share a few with you.
The WHO says over 1.5 million adolescents and young adults aged 10–24 years died in 2020, nearly 5000 every day.
Also, injuries (including road traffic injuries and drowning), violence, self-harm, depression and maternal conditions are the leading causes of death among adolescents and young adults
But before we continue, we will make a stopover in, Nigeria and Liberia to find out from the people what disease or ailment they encountered as young adults and it was managed. Let’s hear from people in Nigeria.
