We are dedicating this edition to people living with Sickle Cell Anemia in the subregion, just as International Sickle Cell Day which is celebrated every June 19, calls for the Building and strengthening of Global Sickle Cell Communities, Formalizing New-born Screening and Knowing your Sickle Cell Disease Status.
The international awareness day is observed also to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.
Our guests are Maguèye Ndiaye President of the Association for sickle cell disease in Senegal and Augustine Kwabena Asubonteng, Health Research Officer/Technical Coordinator for Mobile Application, Sickle Cell Foundation of Ghana.
So we often hear the term sickle cell and wonder what this means, well Sickle cell disease (SCD), or sickle cell anaemia, is a major genetic disease that affects most countries in the African Region.
