The Sokoto State Ministry of Health in the northeast says 24 persons in a single household died as a result of food poisoning,
The victims were residents of Danzanke village of Bargaja Ward of Isa Local Government area of the State.
The Commissioner of health, Dr Ali Inname, in a statement said the incident was as a result of the use of a fertilizer type known as “Gishirin Lalle in Hausa language” used as seasoning in domestic cooking by the family, instead of common salt.
Two women, who merely tasted the food are currently responding to treatment, with a very good chance of survival he said.
Meanwhile, 146 people have died in Kebbi State, according to a health official, as the cholera outbreak in Nigeria spreads into the state.
The Kebbi State government in a statement Wednesday said 2,028 persons had been infected by the disease.
News online portal PREMIUM TIMES reported that cholera outbreak is spreading in the country with states in the north-west region recording high casualties.
