The Casamance conflict in southern Senegal has been thawing for several months.

The demining operations that have been underway for several years are continuing, however, many hectares of land still need to be cleared to facilitate the return of displaced populations.

At a meeting in Ziguinchor, the authorities estimated that 13 billion CFA francs or 21 million US dollars would be needed to clear all the mines in the region.

The National Agency for the Revival of Economic and Social Activities in Casamance (ANRAC) is delighted with this announcement.

However, doubts have been raised about the demining process since it was launched.

Oge Obierika completes the story.
