Democratic governance in Africa faces significant challenges due to the rise of digital authoritarianism, marked by increased internet shutdowns, censorship of news outlets, and restrictive measures on civil participation.

These findings are highlighted in the 2024 report on Internet Freedom in Africa, released by the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA).

The report was unveiled on September 27 in Dakar, Senegal, after the 11th Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa.

This forum brought together national and regional stakeholders, including civil society organizations and NGOs, to address the pressing issues surrounding digital freedom across the continent.

Augustine Kollie completes the story.
