The 14th Combined Arms Regiment of Djibo in Burkina Faso was attacked on Monday.
A statement by The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Burkina Faso said the elements of the regiment valiantly responded to direct and indirect fire from the enemy who came in large numbers.
Air reinforcements have been deployed in the area to ensure rescue and response operations the statement added.
Preliminary reports say 10 soldiers fell during the fighting and around fifty were wounded.
On the enemy side, at least 18 bodies of terrorists were counted during search operations which are still in progress.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces salutes the memory of the fallen soldiers and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.
He congratulates the land and air units for their responsiveness and reassures the public that all measures have been taken to restore peace of mind.
