In Benin, a viral statement from former President Thomas Boni Yayi, following his recent meeting with President Patrice Talon, has sparked intense public debate.
Yayi, who leads the main opposition Democrats Party, expressed deep disappointment with the outcome of the discussions, saying the talks fell far short of expectations.
He went further to accuse President Talon of deliberately seeking to destabilize his political party, whose candidacy was recently invalidated by the Constitutional Court ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The development has heightened political tension as the country moves closer to a critical electoral year.
