France is expected to in the coming days recall some of its troops stationed in some African countries following a presidential declaration last year.
In West Africa, the drawdown will significantly affect Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire as it will Gabon in the Central African region.
Recall President Emmanuel Macron decided on a drastic reduction in military personnel in these countries during a defence council, held in mid-December 2023.
The planned reduction will eventually allow positions, mainly devoted to support functions, to be retained permanently in Abidjan, Dakar and Libreville.
France, according to experts is gradually losing a grip on nations it formally controlled for shared reasons documented in the Sahel region.
