The West African Bar Association (WABA) is raising alarm over deepening democratic and justice deficits in the region. Speaking from Liberia, WABA President Cllr. Bornor Varmah called on member states to take immediate steps to address the challenges undermining rule of law and access to justice.
WABA, a coalition of lawyers and legal institutions across West Africa, reiterated its commitment to safeguarding human rights and promoting democratic governance. Varmah, who also heads the Liberia National Bar Association, urged coordinated petitions and advocacy to counter growing threats to civil liberties.
His remarks come amid rising political tensions and widespread concerns about shrinking civic space in several ECOWAS countries.
