Security experts, policymakers, civil society actors, and youth from across West Africa are meeting in Dakar today, Thursday, July 17, to discuss the growing security crisis in the Central Sahel and its spillover into Senegal.
The debate, organised by West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) under its Security and Governance program “In The Sahel,” is themed “Security in the Central Sahel and at Senegal’s Doorstep: Challenges, Strategies, and Solutions.”
Participants will explore the implications of escalating terror attacks in Mali—particularly the July 1 assault on Nioro du Sahel, near Senegal’s eastern border—and the rising fears among residents of nearby villages such as Diboli, Ndjimbé, and Senoudebou along the Falémé River.
The dialogue aims to identify regional responses and policy solutions to contain and prevent the spread of insecurity across borders.
