Vote counting is underway in Cameroon following Sunday’s presidential election, which saw participation from over eight million voters across the country. The process was largely peaceful, though reports of isolated clashes and logistical issues emerged in some regions.

Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji described the vote as successful across all 360 municipalities, cautioning candidates against making premature declarations of victory.

Observers reported irregularities in Douala, where some voters struggled to find polling stations, while clashes erupted in Garoua near the home of candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

A total of 12 candidates, including long-serving incumbent Paul Biya, contested the election. The Constitutional Council is expected to release the final results by October 26.
