The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing 27 million Ghanaian Cedis ($1.7 million) to assist drought-affected communities in northern Ghana. Managed by the World Food Program, the funds will be distributed through cash transfers to those in need.
USAID/Ghana Mission Director Kimberly Rosen emphasized the U.S.’s continued support for Ghana, particularly during climate-related crises. The funds will aid over 30,000 Ghanaians struggling with record-high food prices and losses in crops and livestock due to prolonged drought.
The U.S. is Ghana’s largest development partner, with over $150 million in bilateral support last year, focusing on health, agriculture, education, and governance. The U.S. is also a major donor to WFP Ghana, helping families fight hunger and rebuild their lives.
