The United States and its partner forces have carried out large-scale strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria, according to U.S. Central Command.
Centcom said the strikes were ordered by President Donald Trump on Saturday as part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, in retaliation for a deadly Islamic State attack on U.S. forces in Syria last month.
The military said the operation aimed to degrade IS capabilities, prevent further attacks, and protect U.S. and allied troops in the region.
In a statement, Centcom warned that anyone who harms American forces will be pursued, saying U.S. warfighters will be defended “anywhere in the world.”
