UNICEF has raised alarm over a looming cholera outbreak threatening the lives of more than 80,000 children across 12 countries in West and Central Africa.
The agency attributes the potential surge in cases to seasonal rains and cross-border disease transmission, particularly from countries like Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, which are already battling active epidemics.
In a statement, UNICEF called for urgent, coordinated efforts to prevent the spread, including strengthening water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
The agency is urging governments and humanitarian partners to act fast to protect vulnerable communities before the outbreak escalates.
