UNICEF has launched a new initiative, First Foods Africa, aimed at improving nutrition for children across sub-Saharan Africa. The program was unveiled in Cotonou over the weekend in collaboration with the African Union, the Government of Benin, regional bodies, and private sector partners.
Globally, an estimated 181 million children under five live in severe food poverty, consuming no more than two of the eight essential food groups required for healthy growth and development.
The initiative seeks to transform food systems while combating child malnutrition and food poverty across the continent. It marks a bold step toward giving millions of African children a healthier start in life.
