The United Nations is increasing pressure on the Nigerian government to safeguard learning spaces as mass abductions of students continue to escalate.
Speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric called for the immediate and safe release of all abducted students in Kebbi and Niger states. He stressed that attacks on schools violate children’s fundamental rights to education and secure learning environments.
The UN’s appeal comes amid a surge in student kidnappings this week, heightening public fear and renewing demands for stronger security measures around educational institutions.
