The United Nations has called on Mali’s transitional authorities to reverse their recent decision to dissolve all political parties and associations.

Describing the move as draconian, the UN expressed deep concern over the shrinking political space and the arrests of opposition figures by intelligence agencies.

UN officials urged Bamako to uphold democratic freedoms and foster an inclusive political process during the transition.

The appeal comes amid growing fears of authoritarian backsliding in Mali ahead of delayed elections.
