Road transporters in Niger are raising concerns over the frequent jihadist attacks along routes crossing the Burkina Faso border. The latest attack occurred last Friday, targeting a convoy of trucks carrying goods through Burkina Faso. The incident took place about thirty kilometers from Téra, in the Tillabéri region.
Since the border with Benin was closed, Nigerien truck drivers have had to rely on the route through Burkina Faso to transport goods from the port of Lomé.
Following this recent attack, the Union of Transport and Related Workers of Niger (Uttan) is urging Nigerien authorities to take action and reopen the border with Benin.
Gamathié Mahamadou, the Secretary-General of Uttan, expressed the union’s call for action.
