There is a growing controversy in Togo about the date for legislative elections.
The elections which should be held before December 31 as the current parliamentary tenure ends will very much not be held in time for reasons not officially communicated.
The government has however instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission CENI, to organize the elections before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The opposition groups have described the directive as unacceptable.
One such platform is the Dynamics for the majority of the people whose Executive Secretary – Gérard Adja, executive fears that there will be a legal vacuum, since the term of office of MPs ends on 31 December.
The Presidency has yet to respond to the tension over the delayed parliamentary vote.
