The Conference of Bishops of Togo has expressed deep concern over the wave of protests that rocked Lomé and other cities between June 26 and 28.
In a statement released on Monday, June 30, the bishops condemned the violence that accompanied the demonstrations, which were marked by growing calls for the resignation of Faure Gnassingbé.
They urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful means of resolving the country’s socio-political challenges.
The protests have drawn widespread local and international attention, with civil society groups demanding justice and reform.
