Togo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the European Union ambassador in Lomé after the European Parliament demanded the release of Abdoul Aziz Goma, an Irish-Togolese citizen detained since 2018.
Goma faces charges of “conspiracy against the internal security of the State” and “criminal association,” accusations tied to his participation in a banned opposition protest that year.
Togolese authorities denounced the resolution as interference in what they describe as a strictly judicial and sovereign matter.
