Togo is stepping up its environmental commitment as key stakeholders gather in Lomé to advance a United Nations–backed initiative aimed at reducing plastic pollution. The week-long engagement brings together government agencies, civil society, and environmental experts to strengthen national capacity in waste management.
The initiative represents a major milestone in Togo’s broader fight against global plastic pollution. Discussions focus on improving regulation, supporting innovation, and enhancing community awareness to curb the growing environmental threat.
At the centre of the process is the development of a comprehensive national action plan that will guide sustainable production, use, and disposal of plastic products across the country. Stakeholders say the plan is critical to aligning Togo with international standards and commitments.
Once validated, the strategy is expected to accelerate national efforts toward a cleaner environment, positioning Togo as a regional leader in sustainable waste management and circular-economy practices.
