Togo’s electoral commission (CENI) has officially released the candidate lists for the upcoming municipal elections, now set for July 17, 2025. A total of 494 candidate lists have been approved, marking a significant step forward in the country’s local governance process.
The elections were initially scheduled for July 10 but postponed after political parties and civil society groups raised concerns about transparency and logistical readiness. One key issue—the proposed increase in the number of councillors—has since been suspended by the commission, easing some of the tension ahead of the vote.
