Togo’s municipal elections have been officially postponed to mid-July, following a decree by President of the National Council, Faure Gnassingbé.
The shift in schedule comes alongside a major electoral adjustment. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has suspended a recent decree that aimed to increase the number of municipal councilors and deputy mayors.
Authorities have not provided detailed reasons for the changes, but the developments are stirring political reactions across the country.
Observers say the delay and decree suspension may impact party strategies and voter mobilization ahead of the polls.
