Lomé, the capital of Togo, is hosting a meeting of the ECOWAS Parliament focused on the future of education in West Africa.
The four-day gathering is examining ways to better align education and training programmes with the socio-economic needs of the sub-region.
According to Togo’s Minister of National Education, Mama Omorou, nearly one in three young people in West Africa is unemployed or underemployed.
Participants are expected to propose recommendations aimed at strengthening technical training and promoting skills-based education across ECOWAS member states.
