The 9th Pan-African Congress is currently underway in Lomé, Togo, bringing together leaders, experts, and delegates from across the continent and the diaspora. The gathering, supported by the African Union, will run until December 12 and focuses on some of Africa’s most pressing challenges.

This year’s agenda highlights issues such as security, industrialization, climate transition, migration, and digital innovation. A central theme of the congress is redefining Africa’s place in global governance in the 21st century, with discussions aimed at shaping a more united and influential continental position.

Faure Gnassingbé, president of Togo’s Council of Ministers, officially opened the proceedings at the Lomé Convention Center on Monday. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of collective action and forward-looking policies to address the continent’s structural hurdles.

The congress has drawn a wide range of notable participants, including heads of state, ministers, academics, and representatives of the African and Afro-descendant diaspora. Their presence signals strong commitment to advancing African solutions to African challenges.
