The Togolese government has accused diaspora-based influencers and activists of inciting recent nationwide protests, saying their actions amount to disinformation and a breach of national laws.
In a strongly worded statement, authorities said bloggers and online voices based abroad are fuelling unrest and civil disobedience through hate speech and misinformation.
Officials also confirmed that those arrested during the demonstrations are facing immediate legal action. Investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those allegedly behind the campaign.
The move has sparked concerns about shrinking civic space and the government’s growing intolerance toward dissent, both at home and abroad.
