The village was displaced in the early 90s.
This was in the midst of the Casamance conflict, which pitted the Senegalese state against the rebels from the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC).
Almost thirty years after the conflict, the inhabitants are gradually returning following the state of Senegal’s success in reclaiming these areas through kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
The relocation to Bissine began in 2020 but the process remains slow.
Abdullahi Hassan, who was part of a mission to Southern Senegal under the WADR security project, IN THE SAHEL explains more in this report.
