The Ivorian government is taking a position on Laurent Gbagbo’s wish to be a candidate in the 2025 presidential election.
A fortnight ago, the former Ivorian president reiterated to his supporters that he will be the candidate of his PPA-CI party in next year’s race despite his removal from the electoral roll.
Gbagbo was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the BECEAO robbery and was pardoned by President Alassane Ouattara but not amnestied.
He is therefore unable to stand for elective office.
His party is now putting pressure on the government to reinstate him on the electoral roll.
Amadou Coulibaly, spokesman for the Ivorian government addressed this agitation.
