The Gambia’s National Assembly passed two bills into law to expedite the prosecution of perpetrators of human rights violations under the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh.
These are the Special Accountability Mechanism (TRRC) Bill, 2024 and the Special Prosecutor’s Office Bill.
Passed by lawmakers during an extraordinary session on Monday, the bills will see the establishment of a special prosecutor’s office to investigate and prosecute the said crimes while providing a framework for compensation
