The Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia is calling on African parliaments to strengthen democratic governance and support sustainable development across the continent.

Fabakary Tombong Jatta, who also serves as Chair of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association – Africa Region, made the call at the opening of the association’s 90th Executive Committee meeting in Namibia.

The week-long gathering has brought together Speakers of Parliament and parliamentary staff from across Africa to deliberate on strengthening legislative institutions and promoting democratic values.

The meeting is expected to conclude with recommendations aimed at reinforcing parliamentary cooperation and advancing governance frameworks across the continent.
