Senegal’s Envoy to Banjul was summoned by authorities in the Gambia after the alleged shooting of a Gambian national by Senegalese soldiers in the Casamance region.
Gambia’s Defense Minister Serign Modou Faye confirmed the summoning of the Senegalese diplomat saying the move was to seek clarity into the shooting of Duwa Badjie.
The Ambassador who was out of the country for an official visit was represented by his deputy, The Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The deceased according to sources was shot by the Senegalese army in Jilanfari village in the Foni region of the Gambia while returning from Funtang – a nearby village in the same region.
The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established.
Speaking to WADR Monday evening, Almamy Gibba, a National Assembly member representing Foni said his team were in the town to convey the corpse back to Banjul.
