In a significant development for press freedom in the Gambia, President Adama Barrow has agreed to drop charges against two journalists following a constructive meeting with the Gambia Press Union (GPU) and the Media Council on Monday.
The journalists faced legal action for their reports that the Gambian leader had chosen a successor ahead of the general elections in 2026, which had raised concerns about government transparency and accountability.
