In The Gambia, a High Court in Banjul has sentenced a Nigerian national to life imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old girl in Kombo South.
The court said the crime represented a serious breach of trust and highlighted the vulnerability of the young victim.
However, the accused was acquitted on a second charge after the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence of penetration.
