The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, accusing the government of neglecting non-teaching staff under the Ghana Education Service.

General Secretary King James Azortibah says members are protesting the exclusion from the September 2025 Continuous Professional Development allowance, delayed promotion appointments, and unpaid salary adjustments. The union also accused the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission of deliberately stalling processes.

TEWU has warned heads of institutions against intimidating staff who comply with the strike. Meanwhile, Labour Minister Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo insists the government has begun talks with the union to resolve the dispute.

The industrial action has heightened fears of prolonged school disruptions, with calls mounting for swift intervention.
