Ghana’s Supreme Court has dismissed an interlocutory injunction filed by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who sought to halt ongoing impeachment proceedings against her. The ruling is a significant setback in her legal battle to challenge the process.
In her application, Justice Torkornoo alleged bias by the five-member committee handling the case and claimed that the proceedings violated her fundamental human rights. She argued that continuing the hearings without addressing these concerns would be unjust.
However, the Supreme Court ruled that her arguments lacked merit and declined to intervene. The justices upheld the authority of the committee to continue its work without interruption.
This decision clears the way for the impeachment process to proceed, intensifying public interest in a case that has stirred debate over judicial accountability and due process in Ghana.
