Sudan is our first stop beyond West Africa this morning as the ongoing conflict there continues to claim lives, displace communities and ruin livelihoods.
On Thursday, an international charity organisation reported that about half of school-age children or more than eight million, are out of school.
Save The Children described it as the world’s worst education crisis.
The charity said children have missed around 500 days of learning since the conflict began in April 2023, more than during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It stated that schools have either been closed, damaged or turned into shelters for displaced families.
This latest information comes as fighting intensifies, with deadly drone strikes reported in al-Obeid and aid agencies urging urgent assistance for the besieged cities of al-Fashir and Kadugli.
