Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, is grappling with a cholera outbreak, with hundreds of new cases reported weekly over the past month.

According to Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, between 600 to 700 cases have been recorded each week. On Thursday alone, 521 new cases were admitted to Omdurman’s Al-Naw Teaching Hospital, and 9 deaths were confirmed.

The surge follows the return of residents to areas like Jabal Awliya and Al Salha after the national army reclaimed control. Poor sanitation and limited access to clean water in these areas have worsened the outbreak.

Authorities say the Federal Health Emergency Room is working continuously to monitor the situation and implement containment measures.
