Two Ghanaian soldiers have been critically injured following a missile attack on the Ghana Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The attack occurred between 1745 and 1752 hours local time amid ongoing exchanges between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, one additional soldier was traumatised during the incident while the Officers’ Mess facility at the base was completely destroyed by fire after being hit.
Military authorities say the injured personnel are receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and remain stable. Plans are underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.
The government of Ghana has since protested the incident through the United Nations headquarters in New York, urging all parties in the conflict to respect their obligations and ensure the safety of peacekeepers in the area.
