Some women rights activists in Sierra Leone have welcomed the decision by President Julius Bio to ban child marriages in the country.
These women activists, who have been advocating for a legal framework to enforce the ban on child marriages, say this is freedom.
Aminata Finda Massaquoi, one of the women’s rights advocates in Freetown, told WADR that this news is welcome and will ensure that future generations.
The law endorsed last month by the National Assembly criminalizes marrying girls below 18 with jail terms of at least 15 years or a stiff fine of more than 2,000 US dollars.
